Jenna Pickering lives in one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the world, but it is the people — not the landscapes — that inspire her paintings.
Living at the foot of one of Australia's most spectacular national parks, natural beauty isn't hard to come by for Jenna Pickering."People , 'You must have so many landscapes to paint', but … I like people," she said.Pickering lives in Tom Price , an iron ore mining town about 1,500 kilometres north of Perth, and a stone's throw from Karijini National Park.
Recently, her talents have been recognised at the Lester Prize, one of the country's most prestigious portraiture awards. This year marked her second time as a finalist at the Lester, first being recognised for her 2022 portrait of iconic musician Paul Kelly.Pickering was awarded the Tony Fini Foundation Artist Prize, chosen by her peers, and the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize."I quite literally went on stage, and told everyone that I think I peed my pants," she said.
