After failed attempts at feather transplant s, Stan the rescued wedge-tailed eagle has defied the odds as wildlife rescuers work to help the bird relearn how to fly. Vet erinarian Bree Talbot said the hospital's team had since made attempts to repair Stan 's damaged wings with replacement feathers. However, Dr Talbot said nature had taken over and Stan was growing his own feathers."He has undergone an accelerated moult and regrown nine of the 11 damaged feathers.

"It is so important to have a facility like this because they lose their flight fitness so quickly, within about 10 days.Ms Barsony said Stan would have to be watched closely."We've been quite concerned because when the feathers are growing back in, they are quite fragile and can easily become damaged if they bash up against the side of the aviary."If he was released into the wild in this state, it is unlikely that he would survive.

"We can watch them to make sure that we know that they're ready to go out back out into the wild and they'll survive.
