The Fairbanks Fire Department receives Mission Lifeline EMS Silver Achievement Award from the American Heart Association..

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks Fire Department is being recognized by the American Heart Association with its Mission Lifeline EMS Silver Achievement Award. The award acknowledges best practices and lifesaving care for heart attack and stroke victims.

Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Coccaro said the Mission Lifeline achievement is “a way for us to gauge our statistics and how we treat our patients medically against a national standard. It follows through several different categories, of response times, scene times, proper medications given at the proper intervals for these patients, and then destination care at the local hospital.”

The 47 active personnel at the Fairbanks Fire Department, including paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters, have all completed cross-training on both emergency medical services and fire suppression, to be prepared for any situation that needs their attention. Coccaro, who moved to Fairbanks last year, said that he has been impressed with the department’s quality of care, which is why he chose to register the department for the Mission Lifeline Award.

This is the first year the Fairbanks Fire Department has won the Mission Lifeline Award. They are convinced that it won’t be the last.Copyright 2023 KTVF. All rights reserved.
