has more significance than a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony or a group of hospital administrators having cookies.For HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood Hospital CEO John Corbeil, it’s a promise fulfilled to return to the community after a one-year absence due to the pandemic and it couldn’t have come at a more critical time as hospital ERs are flooded with patients suffering fromCorbeil recognized the significance of the location.
“As we went through the COVID pandemic, and much like many different industries who dealt with a staffing crisis, we saw the surge drastically impacted the main campus emergency department,” he said.The drain on overworked staff at the campus forced the CEO to temporarily suspend operations at the Fall Creek location for the last 12 months to redeploy the staff to the main hospital campus to deal with the surge.
The CEO was transparent with staff and colleagues concerning the closing which helped bolster the hope that someday it would reopen. “We anticipate the demand for health care services in that area to remain consistent with long-term growth,” he said. Keith Jensen, M.D., regional medical director of pediatric emergency medicine at HCA Houston Healthcare, finds himself and his staff in the middle of the crisis.
