A shooting inside a Maywood church during a Friday morning funeral service left one person injured, police said.
The shooting at Rock of Ages Baptist Church at 1309 W. Madison St. stemmed from a family dispute during the funeral, the Maywood Police Department said in a news release.Police had already been called to the church and were attempting to diffuse the argument inside when a person pulled out a gun and shot someone, police said.
A woman who answered the phone for the church Friday afternoon told the Tribune “everything is OK now” after the shooting.“It was right during the funeral service, inside the church, in the sanctuary,” she added. No clergy members were injured during the shooting, which brought a massive police response, she said.
The officers present at the funeral took two people into custody and police are investigating the shooting, according to the department’s news release.
