The NatCon event has had to switch venues in Brussels due to public pressure
The former Home Secretary and former Brexit Party leader will have top billing at the event aimed to unite Eurosceptics in the European Parliamentare due to take centre stage at an ultra-conservative conference in Belgium this week, where they are expected to help galvanise Europe’s populist right ahead of EU elections.
NatCon comes two weeks before voters in England and Wales go to the polls in local elections, and less than two months ahead of the European Parliament elections when right-wing and far-right parties are expected to see a surge in support across the EU. “It’s ironic: just as Britain’s right becomes much more continental – extreme on Muslims and really quite ugly – the British voters are rejecting them.”
NatCon had been set to take place in Brussels’ ornately decorated Concert Noble, famous for balls attended by European aristocrats, before the venue hosts cancelled on Friday after pressure from the Belgian Anti-Fascist Coordination and the Human Rights League .
