The iconic Brazilian was the only player to lift the World Cup three times and scored a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his countryPELE, the greatest footballer of all time, has died at a Sao Paulo hospital. He had been suffering with kidney and prostate problems in recent times. The 82 year-old Brazilian had been in and out of the hospital over the past year as he fought colon cancer.
Pele, full name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, burst onto the football stage during the 1958 World Cup tournament, where he scored three goals in a semifinal match and two more in the final at the age of 17, capping a brilliant and emotional victory for the Brazil national team. In was whilst wearing the famous kit of Brazil that Pele made the Beautiful Game even more attractive.
