Several hikers discovered the body Friday on the trail at Eagle Rock Reservation on the border of West Orange and Montclair, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday continued to investigate the shooting of an unidentified male on a hiking trail in West Orange.on the border of West Orange and Montclair, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II.
The victim, who investigators still had not identified as of Saturday morning, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:16 p.m., Stephens said in a statement. Anyone with information is asked to contact the prosecutor’s tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. The Eagle Rock Reservation is 400-plus acres of forest reserve and recreational park located in West Orange, Montclair and Verona. The reservation is owned and operated by the Essex County Parks Department.
