A father and son have been fined for breaching COVID-19 public health orders for attempting to leave the Greater Sydney lockdown zone following a potential exposure to a confirmed case.

The pair had left their home in Wollongong and were travelling in a van on Picton Road at Wilton, near the Hume Highway, when they were pulled over by police. They told officers they were travelling to Mittagong to stay with a relative for two weeks, as the father had attended a location in the Illawarra on the same day as a confirmed COVID-19 case.Police were suspicious at the lack of luggage in the father and son's van when they pulled them over on Picton Road at Wilton.

In what police described as "suspicious", neither appeared to have packed any luggage in their van for their two-week stay in the regional community. Roughly an hour's drive south-west of Wollongong, Mittagong is in the Southern Highlands and is not subject to the Greater Sydney stay-at-home orders.NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has warned that police are cracking down on those breaching COVID-19 restrictions across Greater Sydney.The father and son duo were both fined for breaching public health orders.It is the second time the father has been fined for breaking the stay-at-home orders.
