English-born Emma Jackson moved to Wolverton Station in the middle of Cape York, after meeting her grazier husband, Neville Jackson. "There's this perception that when you're working the land in cattle or horticulture, you're not working with the land, that you're not doing the right thing and that's simply not correct."The government has bought more than a dozen pastoral properties in Cape York since 2007, including Kalinga, Crosbie, Strathmay, Killarney, Dixie and Wulpan Stations.
Bertiehaugh Station, near Weipa, was bought by the Federal Government in 2006 and is now known as the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve. She said holding an open day was an idea born out of frustration about the lack of understanding of land management.
