A 'large number' of people over 60 who were not up to date with their COVID vaccines are among the newly infected, the state's chief health officer says.

abc.net.au/news/queensland-covid-19-cases-up-20-per-cent/101756526Queensland's COVID-19 cases have jumped more than 20 per cent and authorities expect numbers to continue to rise until the fourth wave has peaked.The number of people with COVID in hospital remained the sameChief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said a large number of people aged over 60 who had not had their fourth dose of a COVID vaccine were getting infected.

"It is encouraging to see the number of hospitalisations remain low in comparison to previous waves, but a large number of people aged over 60 not up to date with their vaccinations are being infected. Fifteen deaths were registered and 320 people were being treated in hospital for COVID-related illness. Eight of the patients were in ICU.
