After fans stormed through barriers and set off flares last night, Melbourne's Federation Square will no longer be a live site to watch the Women's World Cup.
Federation Square Management have confirmed they no longer can be a live site due to safety concerns.
On Wednesday, organisers announced the site had hit its 10,000 capacity an hour before the match against England began, but supporters pushed past security guards and stormed through barriers in an attempt to watch the action.Fans let off flares and pushed through security barriers at the World Cup live site at Federation Square.
"However, as a result of disappointing behaviour by a small group of people, Federation Square management has made the decision that there will no longer be a live site at Federation Square due to safety concerns."It is clear that if there was a repeat of last night's behaviour it would be unsafe for families, fans and staff."
The statement said the decision followed discussions this morning between event organisers and Victoria Police.Matildas show their heart after agony of defeat"Luckily at this stage, we're not aware of anyone being injured," a police spokesperson said on Thursday morning. Police have said "a large rowdy group of mainly male youths, part of the active supporter groups" were behind the flares.
