The Federal Court of Australia has ordered social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to hide all graphic content depicting the recent stabbing of a bishop at a western Sydney church.

Justice Kennet allowed X Corp a maximum of 24 hours to hide material identified in Ms Inman Grant’s notice from all its global users. X took the eSafety Commissioner to court, arguing she had overstepped her powers by issuing a globally applicable order which was “not within the scope of Australian law”.

Echoing the statement, Musk likened Ms Inman Grant’s removal notice to “censorship” and “global content bans”.
