The Australian federal government is injecting $10 million into a fund to upgrade 110 caravan parks across the country. The aim is to boost tourism in regional areas by making caravan parks more accessible and appealing to a wider range of visitors.
There's been a drop in the number of caravanning trips in recent years as grey nomads increasingly opt for overseas holidays instead.A Melbourne caravan park will receive a drive-in cinema, while others will get upgrades to their existing facilities, including a refurbished croc pool in the Daintree Rainforest.
The grants for upgrades will also include the building of accessible swimming pools at multiples sites, upgrades to a putt putt golf course at a caravan park in Sutton, NSW, and the building of a playground with a giant Tasmanian Tiger at Strahan on Tasmania's west coast. "Tourism is the lifeblood of our local communities, and the classic Aussie holiday holds a lot of special memories for many Aussies and their families," he said.
