Ryan Shaw, an army veteran who was vying for the Labor-held seat of Lilley, said the election campaign was affecting his mental health and PTSD.
The Liberal National Party candidate for Queensland’s most marginal federal seat has withdrawn from the running just months out from the election.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Ryan Shaw visit a Metricon homes site in Geebung in May last year, just days after the army veteran was selected as the LNP’s candidate for Lilley.“This campaign has been very tough for my family and me, and I’m struggling with the effects of this on my mental health and PTSD,” Mr Shaw said. “I need to take time away for the welfare of my family and me.
A trained sniper who spent more than a decade in the Defence Force, Mr Shaw served in both East Timor and Afghanistan.
