NSW minister Stuart Ayres has issued a passionate defence of his role in the trade post saga surrounding former deputy premier John Barilaro, as pressure mounts on the Perrottet government.
he asked for an executive to be added to the shortlist of candidates for the US post later going to BarilaroThe government says that name was not Barilaro’s and Ayres, the trade minister, had insisted he had no influence over the hire. “It was an independent, transparent and meritorious selection process and the same process was used for the STIC - Americas role. Not liking Mr Barilaro or his style of politics is not a suitable reason to reject his application, let alone not select him for the role,” Ayres wrote.
“They have decided the best way to win Penrith is not to actually do anything for Penrith, but to mount an attack on my personal integrity. They want you to think that I would park my values and personal commitment to integrity and break the law,” he said.
