Anthony Albanese has condemned antisemitic actors, saying they will be "punished" as a motion is put forward to better protect Australia's Jewish community.The federal government has made support for green hydrogen a key plank of this term of government, and is trying to push new incentives for the industry through parliament in coming weeks.The Greens have held a party room meeting this morning and we've been given an update on their position on various legislation.
"I know I speak for every member of this house when I say that this kind of hateful prejudice has no place in Australia," he says. "But the truth is, is that the last six months have been like no other I've experienced in this country. And my grandparents came to this country looking for a safe haven for the Jewish people, and over the last six months, we've seen cars set alight.
"The Jewish community is living in fear. Australia has for many years, offered a safe haven. Now parents and grandparents are genuinely wondering if they can continue to build their lives here," the Wentworth MP says."The message today is to say that those who hate on the basis of religion, those who perpetrate crimes on the basis of religion, do not represent the Australian community," Spender says.
He even went as far to say that the reason east coasters could afford their lattes was because of WA's industry."We have here the prime minister, after the environment minister has struck a deal with the crossbench, coming over the top and saying, 'Nup, we're not going to do that, we're going to listen to Roger Cook in WA, we're going to listen to Kerry Stokes' newspaper in WA, rather than Australians,'" he said.
