NSW Trade Minister Stuart Ayres requested an executive be added to the “shortlist” of candidates for a high-profile US trade post that later went to John Barilaro,Pressure is mounting on the NSW Liberal deputy leader after a sensational day in which his claims he had no input in the recruitment process were directly countered by a trove of newly released documents which had been previously classified as secret.
Ayres told media it was “disappointing for NSW” that Barilaro would not be taking up the US trade post, while also declaring he had “not under any circumstances influenced the decisions of Amy Brown in who she is selecting as senior executives of the public service”. He also denied he had met Barilaro during the hiring process.
An email from Investment NSW chief executive Amy Brown sent on February 8 revealed Ayres had requested a candidate be added to a shortlist for the US trade post.
