Federal Reserve policymakers are trying to decide whether they need to lift the benchmark federal funds rate again this year.

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas president Lorie Logan said the recent surge in long-term Treasury yields may mean less need for the US central bank to raise its benchmark interest rate again.

Investors currently see less-than-even odds of another rate increase this year, according to futures. The yield on 30-year Treasury securities rose above 5 per cent last week, the highest since 2007, amid an ongoing adjustment in markets to the Fed’s message that rates are likely to remain higher for longer than previously thought. It was at 4.97 per cent near 11am on Monday in New York.Speaking separately at an American Bankers Association event Monday, Fed vice chair for supervision Michael Barr downplayed results of, which showed stronger-than expected employment growth in September.
