To increase capacity and reduce operating costs, Feeding Northeast Florida has purchased — and plans to renovate — a 121,000-square-foot warehouse complex on Old Kings Road in North Jacksonville.

Demand in the nonprofit's eight-county service area has increased by 25% since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic; about 30% of the people seeking food have never done so before. Meanwhile, with inflation rising, costs have increased by 58% in the last 18 months, according to the food bank.

The overall project cost includes the $3.5 million land purchase and $9 million in renovations, as well as infrastructure and sustainability improvements, cooler/freezer construction, relocating operations into the new space and investments to support the expanded services and capabilities.
