The ratio of women partners has risen to 32.1 per cent, but it’s a slow march to partnerships parity.
The only big-six firm at more than 40 per cent is Ashurst, which has gone from 36.5 per cent female partners to 40.2 per cent over the past 12 months. It is seventh overall, with the next being Allens , Herbert Smith Freehills , KingAshurst adopted a 40 per cent target for new partners in 2018, with the aim of having 33 per cent female partners by July 2021.

Its most recent intake included six clerks and two graduates who are Indigenous.Wood Mallesons appointed the most female partners in this survey, with 10 women among its 18 new partners, just ahead of Allens, Ashurst and Mills Oakley .– when the ratio was 26 per cent – for at least 35 per cent of partners to be female by 2022.
There were some notable laggards that are still under 30 per cent for women partners. Clayton Utz sits on 29.2 per cent. The biggest firm by partnership size, HWL Ebsworth, had five women among its 15 new partners, but still has only 27.8 per cent female partners. Corrs Chambers Westgarth is on 26.9 per cent , but still in front of two other 100-plus partners firms – Mills Oakley and Thomson Geer Overy is well behind its peers in terms of equality at the partnership level. Just two, or 8.7 per cent, of its 23 partners are women.
