Fewer QR check-ins per case as advice issued for self-identifying contacts | marywardy TammyMills1

NSW is keeping QR codes in place for the time being, despite some epidemiologists and federal health authorities doubting the usefulness of checking in given the high rate of COVID-19 in the community.

“QR codes are there to inform people about the presence of COVID cases and to advise people to monitor for symptoms.” However, the number of new cases reported over the past two weeks was more than 28 times that recorded in the two weeks to December 13. It is recommended people exposed to a case in a social setting – such as for dinner at a venue – have a rapid antigen test and monitor for symptoms, getting a PCR test if they develop. People involved in lower risk exposures are encouraged to consider their own personal circumstances, including any underlying health conditions they or their household contacts may have, in determining whether they isolate or take rapid antigen tests if they do not have symptoms.

It also recommended the ongoing use of check-ins for locations with a “high risk of transmission to vulnerable individuals”, such as hospitals and aged care facilities, as well as in critical workplaces where the isolation of multiple individuals “could lead to significant disruption of essential services”.
