Mohammed Ben Sulayem has changed from wanting to expand the grid to advising Andretti to 'go and buy another team'.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has advised Andretti Cadillac to “go and buy another team” to join the F1 grid in a surprise U-turn from his previous stance.

“I have no doubt FOM and Liberty would love to see other teams as long as they are OEMs ,” Ben Sulayem told“I feel that some teams need to be refreshed. What is better? To have 11 teams as a number or 10 and they are strong? I still believe we should have more teams but not any teams. The right teams.“Without mentioning names, there are teams which are struggling…struggling with performance, struggling even with management.

Despite their F1 entry being formally rejected, Andretti have continued to press on with their F1 plans and last month opened a UK base in Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix.
