Up to 200 cars took part in the meet-up on Sunday night
Fifty drivers will be prosecuted after a huge illegal car meet caused 'carnage' on the streets on Greater Manchester last night . Police say up to 200 souped-up sports cars took part in the get together, which began in a car park in Pilsworth, Bury at about 7pm, before travelling through Middleton and into Manchester.
"Traffic was backed up for miles and petrol stations packed out nearby. The police were absolutely everywhere."Videos from the scene show dozens of cars parked up in the Tesco in Middleton town centre, with riot vans and police cars in attendance, while a police helicopter flies overhead. In one clip two people can be seen sat in camping chairs next to two parked cars.
Pc Oliver Garner said: "This is a fantastic step towards making the roads of Greater Manchester a safer place for all those them. My message to those involved in car meets is clear, your actions create risks sadly seen from tragic events in history.
