The RSL is encouraging families to make a short video reciting the Ode and post online to commemorate Anzac Day this year, as coronavirus restrictions mean there will be no dawn service | ebooktim
Instead, NSW Governor Margaret Beazley will cut a lonely figure laying a wreath at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park. There will also be live streaming of the Governor-General David Hurley laying a wreath at 5.30am at the Australian War Memorial. At other memorials around the country a wreath will be placed by one individual.
The postings were launched on Tuesday with a video by former Commando Damien Thomlinson, who lost both legs in Afghanistan due to a roadside bomb. Other videos include four-time Olympian and basketballer Shane Heal, Australian actor Dan Ewing and news presenter Georgie Gardner. CEO of RSL NSW Jon Black said the organisation's reduced funds were due to the fact it had been unable to run the traditional Anzac appeal.
