Finland and Sweden could apply to join NATO ‘within weeks’ | latikambourke
The prime ministers of Sweden and Finland will decide within weeks whether to join NATO, saying they want protection from Russia following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Sweden neighbours Finland which shares a border with Russia and both countries have opted for neutrality, although Finland has deepened its partnership with NATO since Putin’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. “People’s mindset in Finland, and also in Sweden, changed and shifted very dramatically because of Russia’s actions.”
