Detroit Free PressDETROIT – A Michigan boy is recovering from second-degree burns after being lit on fire by friends for an internet challenge.

The boy sustained chin, chest and stomach burns, and is now at home after being released from the hospital, the station reports. Dearborn Heights police are investigating the incident. Last year, a then-12-year-old Detroit girl was burned on 49% of her body after attempting the challenge. Spartanburg Fire Marshal Brad Hall said at the time that the risk of injury goes up when rubbing alcohol gets on clothes because the fabric can ignite. The risk also increases when the alcohol is poured on the chest or near the face, which appears to have happened with the South Carolina boy, he said.
