A fire at a tyre business at Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills has forced the evacuation of a nearby petrol station, sending out huge plumes of smoke.

The Metropolitan Fire Service said crews were called to Knott Street about 5:50pm after receiving triple-zero calls from the public. It said 28 firefighters and seven MFS appliances were fighting the blaze, and were being supported by Country Fire Services crews."The incident is causing smoke to drift across Mount Barker and surrounding communities," the MFS said.

"Residents and motorists are advised to remain indoors and close all doors and windows until the smoke has passed."Topics:
