Firefighters were working to extinguish a warehouse that caught fire Monday in the city’s Alameda Point neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 3:15 p.m., firefighters responded to the warehouse in the 600 block of West Ranger Avenue, aboard at least four engines and two trucks and arrived to find flames and a large column of smoke rising from a large two-story commercial building. Soon after their arrival, firefighters began a defensive approach for the incident.
In a social-media post, Oakland firefighters said they had responded to a mutual-aid request from Alameda firefighters. An Alameda Fire Department spokesman said that aid brought the incident total to about 45 firefighters aboard seven engines, three trucks, four medic units, three chief officers, two staff captains and a two-firefighter care team. Alameda County Fire Department firefighters also helped with station coverage during the incident.
There were no initial reports of injuries or damage assessments, and a cause was under investigation.
