Fire engines from Preston, Penwortham, and Bamber Bridge were called to the scene on Sunday night

Three people had to be freed by firefighters after getting trapped in their vehicles following a crash.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a van in the Ashton-On-Ribble area of Preston. The incident happened at around 9.40pm on Sunday night and a section of the road was closed for several hours. Four fire engines from Preston, Penwortham, and Bamber Bridge were called to the scene. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said three casualties were trapped in the vehicles and released by firefighters before being handed over to paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.In a statement on Facebook last night, Preston Police said: "We’re currently at the scene of a road closure on Junction Road, Ashton On Ribble, Preston.

"The road is closed due to a road traffic collision and we anticipate this will be closed for some time. We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience." This morning a force spokesperson told LancsLive: "We were called at around 9.40pm to reports of a collision between a car and a van. Fortunately nobody suffered serious injuries, however one person was taken to hospital.LFRS said in a statement: "Four fire appliances from Preston, Penwortham, and Bamber Bridge were called to a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles on Guild Way, Preston.
