A wave of extreme heat is set to scorch large parts of the country this week, putting emergency services on high alert.
A four-day state-wide total fire ban has been declared for NSW as heatwave conditions threaten to fan bushfires raging across the state.
Firefighters warned residents to prepare for sweltering temperatures which are predicted to rise into the 40s on Wednesday through until Saturday. Emergency reserves will also be used in Victoria to prevent blackouts when an extreme heatwave hits on Wednesday. Meanwhile, firefighters in Queensland are battling two 'watch and act' level blazes that are threatening homes in the Bundaberg region.
