A case of diphtheria of the throat, a contagious and potentially deadly disease, has been confirmed in a two-year-old in northern NSW
The child, who was not vaccinated, is currently in an intensive care unit in Queensland, the northern NSW health district said in a statement.
Health authorities said the infected child’s family and close contacts have received antibiotics or immunisation to reduce the risk of further transmission and there is no ongoing risk to the community.
