These First Nation educators say the Australian schooling system is failing Indigenous kids. They're offering solutions — and are calling on governments to listen.
Amelia, Veronica and Shirley Turner say First Nations-led learning is key to improving outcomes for Indigenous children.
Her legacy was this week honoured at the sixth Utyerre Apanpe First Nations education forum in Alice Springs, which drew more than 70 First Nations educators from across the country.The Arrernte elder, artist and author was a recipient of an Order of Australia Medal in 1997 for her work in the First Nations community in Central Australia.
They include a national policy to support the teaching of Indigenous languages in the new system and developing and supporting a First Nations education workforce.
