Australia has had its first case of the Omicron variant admitted to hospital while the Newcastle area has been placed on alert after a positive Omicron case was active in the community.
Health Authorities made the announcement in the daily coronavirus update as the state recorded 485 new cases.
“The Newcastle community is being advised that The Argyle House nightclub was visited by confirmed cases of COVID-19 likely to have the Omicron variant of concern,” a statement from NSW Health said. The Newcastle outbreak follows outbreaks at the Albion Hotel at Parramatta, Oxford Tavern at Petersham, Cult Nightclub in Potts Point and the party boat cruise on Sydney Harbour.
