The first tropical cyclone of the season is expected to form off Australia 's north-west coast this week, according to forecasters. A tropical low-pressure system, located approximately 450km off the Cocos (Keeling) Islands—an Australia n territory—is gradually moving south towards Australia 's cyclone monitoring zone. Weather zone reports that forecast models predict the low will intensify, posing a moderate risk of developing into a tropical cyclone by tomorrow.
If it does become a cyclone, it will be named Robyn, marking the start of the 2024-2025 cyclone season. While the cyclone is expected to avoid the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, it will bring thunderstorms and rain to the area throughout the week
