First women basketball players from Afghanistan to arrive in Knoxville. Here's how to help

After months of work, the first two Afghan women are arriving in Knoxville. Here's how you can donate or volunteer to help support them right now.

The two women are part of a larger group ofat the end of 2021. Thirteen of those women and two children are being resettled in Knoxville, and that relocation begins next week.

The local collective supporting and facilitating the arrivals is led by Sarah Hillyer, the director of the University of Tennessee Center for Sport, Peace and Society, former Lady Vol Michelle Marciniak and Mara Gubuan, the founder of Equality League.The collective is working with Bridge Refugee Services, which is in need of volunteers to help set up the apartment for the first two arrivals.
