A shark hooked by the group bit the front of the boat causing it to partially deflate and take on water, damaging the fuel lines and engine.
Police say they were notified about 8pm on Saturday when the men did not return to land, sparking an air and sea search for the missing vessel.

Police said it took about four hours to bring the men back to Bandy Creek in Esperance where they were assessed by paramedics.Esperance fishing supply owner Murray Johnson said shark attacks on boats were rare but not unheard of.
