The Karumba fishing industry is worth $30 million annually, with much of the catch sold in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.Gillnets are diamond-shaped nets that catch fish by the gills, fins, and spines. "An announcement of the outcomes is imminent, and I'm pleased that will give industry and communities the certainty they need and the confidence for a sustainable gulf fishing industry for many years to come," he said in a video statement.In correspondence with Gulf fishers he explained why restrictions would be extended beyond the Great Barrier Reef.

"One of the other big concerns I've got is a lot of those fishermen are the eyes and ears of our coastline," he said. But Karumba businesswoman Yvonne Tunney who runs accommodation, tours, and charters, and a fish and chip shop, said those claims didn't stack up.
