In addition to her coaching experience, Newton has at least some familiarity with the Sky organization, having played for them during the 2006 season. Newton spent one season playing for the Sky, and four others suiting up for the Sacramento Monarchs.Raman has worked as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies the past three seasons, filling a role previously occupied by current Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey.
Raman had an unconventional path into basketball, originally going to law school and working for the federal Labor Department before beginning to volunteer at Wellesley. However, it’s clear she ended up in the right field. Her planning and management skills are precisely what the modern NBA head-coaching gig requires.
