They’re also one of our most neglected body parts, says Katy Trotter, who knows the importance of foot health firsthand. She’s a podiatrist and former standout on Stanford University’s cross-country and track and field teams.
You can avoid common running overuse injuries, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and shin splints, if you spend time stretching and strengthening the muscles in your ankles and feet, she says.
