There's a lot to be said for holidaying close to home, and if you're based in the East Midlands there are some really special places not more than an hour or so away.
The Tower in Bolsover, Derbyshire Fans of Channel 4's Grand Designs might recognise this unusual getaway, as it was featured on the show back in 2002. Another who celebrated a special birthday there said "If you want a peaceful and relaxing time in quirky and stylish surroundings then look no further. We came for my partner's birthday weekend. The Tower was everything we wanted. From arriving to an already lit wood burner and happy birthday balloon to all the little personal touches throughout. We loved every moment and were gutted to leave.
The former staff wing of Grade II listed Tissington Hall the one-bedroom apartment offers opulence and historical features by the bucket load. Owned by the Fitzherbert family since the mansion house was built in 1609, the apartment has received hundreds of five-star reviews on Airbnb. The unique wooden roundhouse offers many of the benefits of a hotel such as underfloor heating and a fully fitted bathroom, paired with the freedom of living live outdoors.
