Johnson scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, fueled by a trio of two-out walks, to beat New Braunfels 5-1 to sweep their bi-district round series.

There's an old baseball axiom about walks coming back to haunt you, especially with two outs.

“Baseball is all about opportunities,” said Johnson head coach Gordon Gesell, whose team is now 24-1-1 in its last 26 games. “We had guys in scoring position in almost every inning, but we just couldn't get them home. We finally were able to get a couple of hits at just the right time.” New Braunfels had a chance to get on the board early, using a hit, hit batsman and a walk to get runners on first and second with one out in the top of the first inning. However, Johnson starter Tyler Walton got a fly ball out and a called third strike to keep the Unicorns off the board.

The Unicorns did get on the board in the top of the second after a two-out double by Ryder Rutledge brought home Josh Lile — who'd led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a two-out walk by Kenny McMullen — to give the Unicorns a 1-0 lead. Johnson threatened again in the bottom half following a leadoff double by Mason Krahn, but the Jaguars left him stranded after a two-out strikeout.
