Large hail, damaging strong winds and heavy rain forecast for Cherbourg, parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, South Burnett and Gold Coast Council areas.

A number of severe storm cells have formed in South-East Queensland with the Bureau of Meteorology warning there was a chance of large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

At 5:00pm the storms were detected on the radar near the area northeast of Kingaroy, Rathdowney, the NSW border and Border Ranges National Park. A severe storm warning has been issued for people in Cherbourg, parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, South Burnett and Gold Coast Council areas.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the South-East Coast and parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
