Large swathes of Australia are in the midst of an energy crisis with residents warned of potential power outages. 7NEWS
The interruptions are forecast to impact Queensland from 4.30pm until midnight and New South Wales from 5pm to midnight, which may lead to outages.
It implemented the cap because the cost of wholesale electricity in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia has been rising too rapidly. Energy market analyst David Leitch said the recent floods in NSW and Queensland also contributed, with coal mines flooded and transport routes restricted. “This unfolding crisis has been in the making for 10 years because of climate denialism and the policy failures by the previous federal government,” he said.
“We are working very hard to avoid any blackouts and load shedding, we have done that so far,” he toldBuckley said the issue needed immediate attention from the federal government.
