Police say five teenagers tried to hide in suburban backyards in Yarraville after a car chase across the city following an alleged aggravated burglary in Brighton.

Five teenagers have been arrested after allegedly leading police on a pursuit across the city following an aggravated burglary in Brighton, in Melbourne's south-east, last night.

Police helicopters and patrol cars followed the vehicle along St Kilda Road, through Southbank and then over the Bolte Bridge.The stolen vehicle was dumped at Yarraville Gardens, and the occupants fled on foot into the backyards of several properties. Detectives are trying to work out whether the teenagers were also involved in an aggravated burglary in Paschall Road in Bentleigh shortly after the incident in Brighton.The teenagers are being interviewed in relation to aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and traffic offences.
