BREAKING: Flames engulf top floor of tower block in London flat fire.
Plumes of smoke are billowing out of the top floor in a block of flats in east London’s docklands.London Fire Brigade said its crews were at the scene on Manwood Street in North Greenwich, with the fire appearing to be at the top of a block of around 18 storeys., as London burned on Britain’s hottest ever day, with temperatures topping 40°C.
Footage appeared to show thick plumes of smoke barreling out of the top floor windows of the building, and flames could also be seen. The LFB said the flat was on the 17th floor, while firefighters are also tackling a hectare of grass on fire opposite the tower block. A statement explained: ‘Fifteen fire engines and around 125 firefighters have been called to a flat fire on Manwood Street in North Woolwich.
