Storm season is in full swing across the nation’s east – with last week’s storms in Queensland and New South Wales resulting in damage, power outages and large hailstorms hammering the ground.

Severe thunderstorms could hit Sydney's west and Wollongong on Monday with wild weather forecast across the eastern states this week

The afternoon heat can feel heavy as clouds build, towering overhead until the sky turns dark and the ominous rumble of thunder leads many to driving their cars undercover. Meanwhile, a frontal system crossing the south-east will help to create the perfect environment for showers and thunderstorms to develop across much of New South Wales.

While thunderstorms are a normal occurrence at this time of year, Monday’s storms are set to target densely populated areas, and could cause havoc with flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones all possible during the afternoon and evening. Storms are likely to hit Orange, Dubbo and the western parts of Sydney on Monday afternoon. Picture: Sky News Australia
