Heavy rainfall and flash flooding have impacted parts of Queensland, particularly the South Burnett region. Kingaroy recorded over 80mm of rain in an hour, leading to road closures and rescue operations. Authorities have issued warnings for heavy rainfall and damaging winds across several regions.
Intense rain has inundated parts of Queensland , with reports of widespread flash flooding . Kingaroy in South Burnett recorded 82 millimetres in an hour, while Dalby in the Western Downs recorded 68 millimetres. A person is trapped in a car in floodwaters in South Burnett after more than 120 millimetres fell in two hours. Queensland Fire Department crews are attempting to rescue the person with a rope at Taabinga, near Kingaroy . Kingaroy local Adam O’Brien says he has had 124mm this afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast heavy rainfall and damaging winds for Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and the south-east. 'We've had some intense rainfall areas, particularly around the Kingaroy area in the South Burnett,' BOM senior meteorologist Steve Hadley said. 'The second area is over the Western Downs, more around Miles and Tara out towards the west where we've seen a bit of heavy rainfall, as well as some falls elsewhere in south-eastern Queensland around 40 to 60 millimetres in an hour.' Heavy rainfall could also return to Kingaroy, with police issuing an emergency alert for the town. Saddle Creek, in Central Queensland south-west of Rolleston, recorded 62mm in an hour. 'We have had at times seen on our radar some scope for large hail around southern Queensland,' he said. 'It's looking like a pretty stormy episode through south-eastern parts of Queensland over the next couple of days into the New Year, more especially tomorrow.' South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff said at least two road intersections at Kingaroy had been 'significantly damaged' by flash flooding. It's the second time this month the region has been on alert after flash flooding. Ms Duff said the last flash floods caused significant road damage and council was negotiating with the state and federal governments to fund repair
