SEATTLE — Seattle police said a carjacker who was tracked to a park along Lake Washington early Thursday rammed a patrol car and then tried to flee, but instead hit a building and became stuck in a muddy field.
Officers said the victim was parking his car near Eighth Avenue and King Street around 11 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by a man who pistol-whipped him and then stole his phone, wallet, shoes, keys and car. The victim and a family member reported the carjacking to Seattle police. About two hours later, the victim called 911 and said they had remotely tracked the stolen car to Colman Park in the 2300 block of Lake Washington Boulevard.
Seattle police said that when officers arrived at the park, they blocked the entry and exit after they saw two people sitting in the stolen car. When the occupants of the car saw the officers, police said they tried to ram a patrol car and then drive away. When they couldn’t get out of the parking lot, they drove across the park’s muddy field, hit a bathroom and became stuck. The driver, a 20-year-old man, and his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, were booked into the King County Jail.
