United Airlines flight attendants demonstrated at Newark and 14 other airports Tuesday.

United Airlines Flight Attendants picket outside Newark Liberty International AirportAir travelers around the country Tuesday were greeted by picketing flight attendants at United Airlines terminals who want the company to fix what they say are systemic staffing problems that cause flight delays and cancelations.

The demonstration was one of 15 held at airports in the U.S., Guam and London with more than 1,000 total participants. Newark was the only metro area airport among those where flight attendants demonstrated. “The schedule is our lifeblood,” she said. “United didn’t have enough schedulers and we had a hard time.”“We’ve worked hard to reduce wait times for flight attendants to talk to a crew scheduler, including more hiring and adding digital options for some items,” a spokesman said in a statement.

They also protested catering problems that mean there aren’t enough items for passengers to get the food they’re expecting, she said.
